A leisurely start this morning before we make the short journey to the town of Versailles. When you arrive you’ll only have eyes at first for the wonderful Palace and Gardens of Versailles, a World Heritage Site for 30 years. But first take some time to explore the other hidden treasures Versailles has to offer .
You might like to visit ‘Old Versailles’, the historical heart of the town with the Royal Tennis Court that played its part in the French Revolution. Or the enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of St Louis, with its superb cathedral complete with beautiful collection of paintings. You may be drawn towards the Church of Notre Dame, stroll around the heart of the picturesque antique district or visit the lively market which takes place here on Friday mornings.
We then make our way to the famous Palace and Gardens of Versailles, considered to be one of the most magnificent achievements of 18th century French architecture & design.
Your guide will take you on a tour of the Palace which includes the stunning Hall of Mirrors, the most famous room in the Palace. You can also enjoy a self guided tour of the State Apartments as well as visit the Royal Stables to see the Gallery of Coaches, one of the greatest collections of majestic coaches and carriages in Europe.
One of the highlights of the visit is the astonishingly beautiful palatial grounds. Enjoy the impressive panoramas of this famous landscape with the Grand Canal and numerous elaborate fountains and sculptures that cover the grounds.
