The gothic Cathedral of Derby towers over the city which is hardly surprising given it has one of the tallest towers in the country. It also has the oldest ring of ten bells in the world.
On a guided tour we will see many historic treasures, including Bess of Hardwick’s elaborate tomb, the intricate Bakewell Screen, wrought-iron work and stained-glass windows, as well as providing an insight into the Cathedral at work.
Time afterwards to explore the lively Cathedral quarter including the long-established Bennetts Department Store and Sadler Gate, one of the city’s oldest shopping streets featuring unique shops and cafes for lunch.
Later in the afternoon we make our way to the family-run Bluebell Dairy farm producing delicious luxury artisan ice cream on the outskirts of Derby. They use the creamy milk from their own herd of Holstein Friesian cows to hand-make the ice cream which is also available in their Ice Cream Parlour.
You can enjoy a Talk and Taste experience with tea/coffee whilst listening to an informative talk on the business, as well as tasting plenty of ice cream afterwards! There is also a petting area which many local city schools have visited and the enterprise has won many prestigious awards over the years.
