Guernsey has a very ‘continental’ atmosphere – harbours, cobbled streets, and delightful architecture alongside shops, cafes and restaurants. Its relaxed style of life and refreshing character makes it an ideal destination combining with the delightful, unspoilt island of Sark.
Destination Coach Holiday Highlights and Itinerary
Poole, Dorset (Thursday)
An early start this morning as we make our way to the ferry terminal at Poole in Dorset. Here your luggage is loaded, then we leave our coach behind us and board the ferry as foot passengers for the Condor ferry to Guernsey. On arrival at St Peter Port we are met by a local coach to take us to our hotel.
St Peter Port
Considered one of the most beautiful of Europe’s harbour towns, St Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey. It is known for its diverse history, beautiful gardens, charming cobbled streets, and all concentrated within a compact and accessible three mile area. Castle Cornet has protected the town for more than 8 centuries, and five museums are now contained within its walls. Stroll along beautiful beaches, enjoy traditional afternoon tea, or perhaps a more hearty meal at one of the lovely restaurants.
Isle of Sark
The smallest of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Sark is truly a haven of peace and tranquillity. One of the last remaining car-free places in the world, the only means of transport permitted are tractors, horse-drawn vehicles or bicycles. The well maintained footpaths make it easy to get around the island, despite the few gentle hills. After exploring the caves, cliffs or bays, a lobster lunch or a Sark cream tea could be just the ticket! The dark skies provide wonderful stargazing opportunities, and indeed the Isle of Sark has be named the world’s first Dark Skies Island. For those who enjoyed the 2012 Olympics, Sark has only one post box, and it has been painted gold to represent Carl Hester’s part in winning with the Team GB dressage team.
