The original capital of the north, York still captures the visitor’s imagination with its stunning medieval buildings built of honey-coloured stone. One of the best ways to see the city is from the Roman walls which surround York and are linked by towers.
Then visit York Minster, one of the most impressive cathedrals in England, famed for its stained-glass windows, ancient treasures and soaring towers and spires. Explore the historic streets full of interesting buildings and shops leading to the famous Shambles area, home to narrow streets with tiny overhanging buildings.
The National Railway Museum is also an interesting option in this railway city as well as Jorvik, the Viking heritage centre showcasing amazing finds. We will also enjoy a relaxing river cruise on the river Ouse and admire the city from the water.
