Today we drive to the coast via the market town of Barnstaple, famous for its 16 arch medieval bridge over the river Taw. Explore the pretty streets with attractive Butcher’s Row and the Victorian Pannier Market or take a stroll along Queen Anne’s Walk on the riverside near the bustling quay.
Onward to the seaside resort of Ilfracombe on the North Devon Heritage coast. On the waterfront there is a beautiful beach and a pier at the entrance to the small picturesque harbour and quay. Steeped in maritime history it is still an important working fishing port. The town has an aquarium, galleries, museum, churches and shops and cafes to explore. We drive via the North Devon Heritage coast road with nature reserves of sandy beaches and dramatic coastal views.
Nestling in a steep wooded valley RHS Rosemoor is an enchanting garden, blending formal and informal plantings to magical effect. Surrounded by woodland the garden is rich in variety, offering inspiration, tranquillity and a lovely time to relax with nature. In summer the Hot Garden dazzles with vibrant colours, the rose gardens are full of fragrance and the long borders are ablaze with colour; just a few of the many gardens on display.
